China To Take Over Gwadar Port In Pakistan

Fully aware of the strategic value of Gwadar port, China has accepted Pakistan’s request to take over operational control of the port.
Pakistan Defence Minister,  Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar said after his visit to China with Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani that China had  accepted to take over operations at Gwadar port on Pakistan’s request.
Pakistan has also requested China to build a naval base at the port.
China will take over control to run the Gwader port after the present contract with the Singapore Port Authority (SPA) is cancelled.
Pakistan is unhappy with the performace of the Singapore Port Authority and their contract will soon be cancelled on recommendations issued  by the Planning Commission’s task force on maritime industry.
Gwadar is situated   in the southern part of Baluchistan province and is a warm-water, deep-sea port on the Arabian Sea at the entrance of Persian Gulf    about 460 km west of Karachi.
