Isdlamabad May 28, 2011
US appeal to allow functioning of the Intelligence fusion cell has been turned down by Pakistan. US have also been told that any future unilateral action will be taken as violation of airspace and will effect the US-Pakistan relation which has already become fragile.
Secretary of State visited Islamabad on Friday and held meeting with the President Asif Ali Zardar, Prime Minister Yusuf Reza Gilani and Army Chief Ashfaq Kiyani in the president house. She was accompanied by Chairman joint chief of staff Mike Mullen.
In the president house Asif Zardari has expressed his strong views against the Drone attacks and said his government intended to review operations by unmanned US drone aircraft.
Hilary Clinton had Admiral Mike Mullen standing by her side in the 34 minutes media interaction. Both looked very grim, stressed and exhausted giving all indication that talks with Pakistan did not go their way.
Hilary said “We both recognize that there is still much more work required to be done and it is urgent. Today we discussed in even greater detail cooperation to disrupt, dismantle and defeat Al Qaeda and to drive them from Pakistan and the region.
She further said “We will do our part and we look to the government of Pakistan to take decisive steps in the days ahead. Joint action against Al Qaeda and its affiliates will make Pakistan, America and the world more safe and more secured,” said Ms Clinton, who was accompanied by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Michael Mullen, at a media briefing at the American embassy.
There was no joint statement after the meeting held between the two sides in the president house. However a short note was issued from the presidency which said: “The two sides agreed that in pursuing counter-terrorism the two countries will work together in any future action against high-value targets in Pakistan.”
