Turkish Election: PM Erdogan Wins Third Time

Istanbul, Turkey,  June 13, 2011, -- Justice and Development Party (AKP) of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which has been in power for  last eight years, has won the  majority of votes in the parliamentary elections  held on Sunday, winning a third term in office with 49.9% of the vote with 99.9% of the votes counted.

 Recep Tayyip Erdogan has dominated Turkish politics for nearly a decade, with a well defined assertive economic and diplomatic role in the region.

After hearing his win late Sunday night, Erdogan said “We are thrilled after winning one out of every two voters' votes in the country."

In a victory speech delivered out from the balcony of his party’s headquarters in Ankara, Erdogan made an undertaking to serve all Turks, regardless of ethnicity or religious sect.

Erdogan was on top of his voice "To the Turkish nation, whether you voted for AKP or not, the real winner of the 2011 elections is Turkey," -----"No one should have any doubt, whether you voted for us or not, all of your beliefs and values and lifestyles are our pride."

His supporters gathered outside, waved flags and chanted slogans in his favour.
