US Not Against Islam,Says Clinton

DHAKA:  May 6
Hillary Clinton, the US Secretary of State said that she was quite upset to hear the allegations   that the United States had a prejudiced mindset against Muslims.
Clinton was replying to a question made in a public forum during her visit to Bangladesh when she was confronted by a student who remarked that the United States was against Islam.
Clinton said that US-led war in Afghanistan after 9/11 attack was in self defense against the Al-Qaida and
other extremist who were forcing “perverted” teaching of Islam.
Clinton said "That hurts me so much," Clinton said. "It's a painful perception to hear about and I deeply regret that anyone believes that or propagates it."
She said "Is there discrimination or prejudice in the United States like in every society and country in the world? Unfortunately yes. Human nature has not changed dramatically,"---
"There is discrimination against people of different religions, of different races, of different ethnic groups all over the world... but I don't think that it is at all fair to hold up the United States"
Clinton said "I believe that the United States through our laws and through our constant political dialogue has gone probably farther than anywhere else in the world in trying to guarantee legal protections for people. I would like to see more countries do more to protect the rights of minorities," she said.
The United States has maintained a comfortably co-operative relationship with Bangladesh known as a moderate Muslim state.
The US is great admirer of Mohammad Yunus, the Nobel laureate and founder of Bangladesh Grammin Bank. Clinton made a point to have a meeting with Mohammad Yunus during her present visit.
