Contaminated Cucumber: 12 dead In Germany

Berlin May 31, 2011
News reports from Germany say that  at least 12 people have died and hundreds fell  ill after  an outbreak of  food poisoning due to  imported cucumbers found later to be contaminated and infected.
The spread of food poisoning was first reported in northern part of Germany where 1200 cases were reported.

Reports say that Belgium and Russia have imposed a ban on the import of vegetables from Spain, believed to be the source of some of the contaminated cucumbers. Madrid has denied the allegation.
Meanwhile, Stockholm-based European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has said the outbreak of the potentially deadly strain of E. coli as "one of the largest worldwide and the largest ever reported in Germany".

German Authorities have warned against eating raw vegetables after some of the cucumbers imported from Spain were found contaminated.
