US Intelligence Cells In Pakistan Shut Down
LOS ANGELES: Friday, May 27, 2011
Three US military intelligence centers in Quetta and Peshawar have been shut down by the Pakistani authorities. US operatives are being withdrawn from the two of its centers in Peshawar and one in Quetta, a news report said.
The intelligence centers were known to be functioning as intelligence fusion cells where satellite images, target
data and other signals were processed and shared with the Pakistani ground forces operating against the militants. The intelligence fusion cells were very instrumental in tracking movement of militants on both sides of the border, senior US officials said.
The closure of the intelligence centers in Peshawar and Quetta has not affected the CIA's operation ability to carry out missile attacks from drone aircraft on the militant’s stronghold in the northern Pakistan bordering Afghanistan.
