Pakistan Army Not Using Publicized American Money, Says Gen. Kiyani
Islamabad, June 11, 2011
Pakistan Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani has dispelled a falsely created perception that billions of Dollar in US aid was going to the armed forces for its expenses.
In a detailed press release issued by the ISPR after the 139th Corp Commanders meeting held on Thursday, General Kiyani disclosed that “Under the head of Coalition Support Fund (CSF), against a total sum of $13 billion expected from the US, only $8.6 billion have been received by the Government of Pakistan. The government has further made available only $1.4 billion to the Army over last ten years. A relatively smaller amount has gone to Navy and PAF as well”.
“The rest, i.e. approximately $6 billion, have been utilized by the Government of Pakistan for budgetary support, which ultimately means the people of Pakistan.”
Thursday’s Corp Commanders meeting at the GHQ had taken cognizance of the controversies that were created with intent to run down the Armed Forces, and the Army in particular. The press release was aimed to bring underlying facts to public.
More of the ISPR press release will follow.
