Pakistani Ahmedis In Thai Jail Freed

BANGKOK:  June 6, 2011

National Human Rights Commission and immigration in Bangkok ha successfully obtained on bail release of over 100 Pakistani Ahmedis from a detention centre in Bangkok on Monday after intense negotiation with Thai authorities.


Almost 100 Pakistani refugees belonged to the Ahmedi sect who had fled Pakistan in December 2010 because they feared persecution in their homeland by the religious extremist.

The Thai Committee for Refugees said that they have been  freed on bail. They will remain in Bangkok until their settlement in a third country is worked out.
