President Zardari May lose Power To Appoint PCB Chairman
KARACHI: June 8
President Asif Ali Zardari may lose Ijaz Butt as PCB Chairman not because of Afridi’s issue but due to the new ICC condition that boards should be democratically elected.
The executive board meeting of International Cricket Council (ICC) is scheduled to be held this month where it is expected that the board will formulate new rules and conditions liberating all cricket boards from political
interference and influence.Meaning thereby that ICC will impose condition that boards are elected on democratic pattern and not like BCCP where the Chairman has always been a prerogative of the President.
BCCP sources has said that notice has been sent to ICC seeking clarification on such recommendation or binding that the game should be kept clean from political influences.
Sports analyst, experts and former stars cricketers have always voiced against the power of the President to appoint Chairman out of his free choice. The are of the view that the body should be elected without ant political influence.
If Pakistan has to follow terms and conditions of ICC, then the President may have to surrender his power to appoint board’s Chairman. He may enjoy the titular patron in chief of cricket in Pakistan. The new development in ICC has surely put Ijaz Butt in trouble.
